Universities with Seed-Related Programs

Clemson University’s Seed Certification Services
Clemson’s Department of Fertilizer and Seed Certification Services was designed to enhance efficiency of South Carolina's agricultural producers by providing unbiased, third party quality assurance programs for the fertilizer and seed industries.

Iowa State University Seed Science Center
Provides research, testing, and certification services and administers the National Seed Health System.

Land Grant Colleges and Universities

Provides links to all U.S. land grant colleges and universities, including agricultural colleges with specialties related to plant biology and pathology.

Ohio State University Seed Biology Program
OSU’s Department of Horticulture and Crop Science offers one of the most comprehensive Seed Biology programs anywhere. It crosses diverse commodities and has complete disciplinary coverage.

University of California Seed Biotechnology Center
The Seed Biotechnology Center at UC-Davis coordinates research to address problems of the seed industry and provides continuing education in seed biology and technology. University of Kentucky Seed Biology Program
Kentucky has developed a strong interdisciplinary program in seed biology with areas of focus in agronomy, horticulture and ecology. It provides course work and research opportunities in both applied and fundamental aspects of seed biology.

University of Minnesota Plant Industries Management
Minnesota offers an agronomy emphasis with concentration in areas such as crop production, diversified agriculture, integrated pest management, seed conditioning and technology, or other areas related to production and quality in the food and fiber industries. It also offers a horticulture emphasis with concentration in areas such as plant propagation, woody and herbaceous plant materials, turf, and greenhouse and nursery production.

University of Nebraska Foundation Seed Division
Nebraska’s Foundation Seed Division (FSD) increases small amounts of new seed varieties to ensure sufficient seed distribution to certified seed growers. FSD also maintains supplies of established varieties of foundation seed. It is part of the University of Nebraska and is headquartered at NU’s Agricultural Research and Development Center.
